Letting go of insecurities and low self-worth

At the heart of your binge eating is a painful relationship with yourself.

How do you feel when you manager gives you ‘constructive criticism’ or when you have had an argument with your partner/friend, or after you have shouted at your kid(s)?

All of these events can trigger within you deep feelings of insecurities and you end up feeling like you have failed as a parent/colleague/friend/partner, or that you are not enough. These painful feelings about yourself can become so unbearable you then turn to food to ‘stuff’ down these feelings, to block them out.

All addictive behaviours, including binge-eating has at its core the desire to escape from uncomfortable feelings, and this comes from having a painful relationship with ourself. When we are in thick of our insecurities we believe we are  ‘not enough’, unworthy, a failure, someone who can’t cope or feels overwhelmed, or fears rejection/exclusion. We believe this is who I am and we get stuck there - as we spiral into self-loathing, shame and guilt, fuelling our emotional eating.
