CHELVI MAILVAGANAN

My Journey to a More Present & Full Life

A Full Life is the product of my own struggles with digital distraction — and the freedom I have found through developing a healthier, more intentional relationship with technology.

For years, I found myself scrolling or binge-watching far longer than I intended. I would stay up too late, wake up tired and frustrated with myself, and promise to do things differently — only to find myself repeating the same patterns. But the real cost wasn't simply the hours I was losing. It was the life I wasn't fully present for.

Today, I am passionate about helping others understand what lies beneath our digital habits and develop a healthier relationship with technology — not simply so we spend less time on screens, but so we have more attention for the work, relationships and experiences that make life worth living.

My wake-up call came when I saw my own digital habits reflected in my daughter. But I couldn’t teach her that through words alone. I had to show her.

As a meditator of more than 25 years, I valued awareness, concentration and open-hearted relationships. Yet mindless scrolling and binge-watching were stealing my focus, my presence with the people I loved and precious hours of my life. The gap between who I wanted to be and how I was living left me feeling guilty and ashamed.

I wasn’t simply losing time to a screen. I was using constant stimulation to escape uncomfortable feelings and missing the life unfolding in front of me.

Change began when I stopped judging myself and became curious about what was driving my behaviour. I learned to face boredom, stress and discomfort without automatically reaching for a screen and to direct my attention towards what mattered most.

Today, technology has a place in my life, but it no longer runs it. I am more focused and productive. My relationships are deeper. My spiritual practice is stronger. And because I am present for my life, it feels richer, more meaningful and more joyful.

And, I am no longer scrolling past my own life.

I love exploring life’s bigger questions—what makes life meaningful, how we live with purpose and how we make the most of the time we have. My love of philosophy and meditation keeps me curious, reflective and always learning. I also teach regular meditation classes and workshops in Kent.

When I’m not working with clients, the other joys in my life include spending time with my family and raising my beautiful daughter, Uma. I also enjoy travelling, going on meditation retreats, reading personal-development books and catching up with friends in cafés.
